French-Italian conductor Karine Locatelli brings over 15 years experience from the Lyon Opera House, with recent engagements in renowned institutions such as the Royal Danish Opera, Chœur de Radio France, Nederlandse Reisopera, Orchestre National des Pays de la Loire, Chœur Accentus. Upcoming events include a debut with Orchestre Nationale du Capitole de Toulouse. Among further projects we can already mention Chichester Psalms and Suor Angelica.

 

With a background in clarinet, chorus and orchestra conducting, she studied in Paris at Ecole Normale de Musique with Dominique Rouits, in Lyon at Cnsmd with Bernard Tétu and Gilbert Amy. Her accolades comprise a Special Prize in the Blue Danube Opera Conducting Competition-Béla Bartok, conducting Don Giovanni, Bluebeard castle, and Pagliacci in Bulgaria in 2021.

 

At the Lyon Opera House she led the Maîtrise Children's Choir for several years and won the prestigious Liliane Bettencourt Choral Singing Prize in 2019. She worked and prepared the Choir in many productions and contribuated as assistant conductor in the house. She collaborated with several conductors : Emmanuel Krivine, Kazushi Ono, Titus Engel, Daniele Rustioni, Elena Schwarz, Alejo Pérez, Kirill Petrenko, Martyn Brabbins in numerous operas : Turn of the screw, La Damnation de Faust, Tosca, Mefisofele, Manon, Werther, Carmen, Pelléas et Mélisande, Suor Angelica, Jeanne au bûcher, Zauberflöte, Perséphone, A Midsummer night's dream, L'Enfant et les Sortilèges, Messiah, Peer Gynt, 7 Minuti ...

As a conductor she performed Hänsel et Gretel, La Bohème (french version), The King and I, Brundibar, Noye's Fludde, Les Enfants du Levant, The Golden Vanity, and many concert and works with the orchestra. Aside a very intense activity in the house, she also conducted Carmen, Carmina Burana, highlights by Offenbach, Haendel Dixit Dominus, Mozart Requiem, L'Enfant et les Sortilèges, Duruflé Requiem.

Highlights recent engagements include Semiramide, Peter and the Wolf, Sodier's tale, Béatrice et Bénédicte And Tan Dun Requiem for Nature.

 

As a chorus master, she is a regular presence at the Royal Danish Opera House since 2015 : Vespers, Zauberflöte, Tosca, Daphnis et Chloé, Die Lustige Witwe, Cenerentola, Asle og Alida, and led a concert with Det Kongelige Opera Kor at Gamle scene, Copenhagen.

 

Karine Locatelli is celebrated for her versatility. Particularly involved in transmission to young people she teaches conducting at Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Lyon.
